the still life set up has been my little agony all the way - this is just for having some practice while I am getting closer to find answers about the painting surface - the smsll vase here is the most difficult subject I have, it confronts me immidiately with the tonal control both in color, the 'drawing', the forshortenings and myriads of soft edges. - I paint here from direct observation which is much better than a photo - I must do that more though artificial light is far from as good as daylight..

with this one I will wait a while as it conflicts with other priorities, I removed the addition as it was too problematic to make it not appear as this. I keep the stripe that I painted and then mount it on a whole piece of prober wood panel

the photo is not the best

thats the way it sometimes goes with painting,I decided to give it try to add a little more panel (masonite) I forgot it was not the same type so I had to add some stripes of paper to level up, what troubles. well at least it works ok what I have been through so if else the addition goes well with a slight more work on the lemon then I dont think there is more to do, if so it would be a smoothning of some high lights possible

taking a little round more with the lemon shape and the cast reflections, a bit tedious but not problematic so I think I have a photo sunday - well it got to a bit more with the ground plane the handle and the reflection in the pitcher to the left also the reddish part must be seen a little to the left as the lemon was rendered a bit smaller.

so finally it got there - some writing in the previous post
however can add that I repainted the lemon the lower part of the pitcher first removing all paint and to some degree the ground - after I took the photo I can see now I forgot to finish a bit of the shadow of the lemon
btw the three long reflections in the dark shape are from the easel

I have done one more step on this one, where I keyed up (lighter color and values) working from a photo to define things better, think it is finished now, will see how it dries up for possible corrections then I poat a photo soon and maybe another little one in between. I had to make a little difficult choise as the part of the drawing with the handle was not corrrect so it is now bigger and cant remain within the frame edge. I have two photo of the setup that practically looks the same on a thumbnail and I came to confuse these two setups along the work which means that the lemon is placed farer away to left and there is a little changed viewing angle on the handle.

got a bit more confident with the reflections also defined the drawing better around a bit here and there, raise dthe chroma a bit on the lemon.
there just remains the line shadow under the pitcher, which is no problem, I just wait till it has dried, thought I post it now though

I did a little sketch work some time ago of this and since then I have been adding to it a little now and then also the stretcher, which meant I worked more with its reflection, improved a bit on the drawing as well.
quite extreem light because it is the sun just bursting in form the side of the window and throwing a strong reflection back from the white table. It got cropped a bit unfortunate cause it was just meant as a sketch to check the paint on this small piece, howevr I think it works ok.

Been a long time I did a work on canvas. In a way I like this less expensive canvas from classens (I think it is) better than the more expensive one in spite its quite rough surface, dont know what it is - for these small alla prima works aiming for high rendering not the best to use, well I think it worked ok and it has its charm.
I did a first work that was almost dried the next day and then went back and readjusted a bit here and there - the colors can change somehow upon drying and it is very clear in one like this. it was mostly the 'bloom' (I think I saw someone use this word) and a bit the stems well and highlight too.

Most of my daily works here are based on direct observation, where this one came out from trying developing an abstract landscape where the scene from the 'king arthur' movie the battle scene on the frozen mountain lake came to my mind.
its not particular well painted, however I think it works ok and I am happy about how I go tthe movements of the warriors.

I did the oranges first ( no image here) and then went to the plum which came out quite fine, I think, then the orange work was next to it and I tried to use it for the compostion. - I am still considering the orange work, it looks like it will be ok - so might post it later on.

I removed the paint in the plum shape completely and repainted it - that plum color - - -
I let it dry and see what I can do next - think th ephoto shows the light contrast somehow stronger ? might take a new photo

After some time the colors did not work so strong than just after it was painted, so It left me to try and work more with it - - - - - - - -

Here is a second rework below, it approaches the first one which I liked a bit better though this one is interesting too - think the red spot light up a bit more on the photo than it should.

I did this one as a recapitulation on 'Oeresund late august'( which is reserved now) I have done several but this works a bit better, This painting is reserved too untill further.

This photo looks darker probably than the rest on this blog, but I have changed to a lighter screen, which probably more visitors also use to day, I hope to get as many replaced as soon as possible.

after a bit of reworking.

I received a comment on this one posted below, and after some thought about it I remember now I went for not describing the narrow shadowside at all - then again I was not consequent with flatten the light shape, so that part of it got unclear.

I decided to work a bit more with it and think I described the blob better
I had the setup on a board and I use two places for this board one close to me and one a bit away - I remembered wrong and chose a bit away from me and saw the drawing wrong so I corrected and went back to the 'at close' all right messed up a bit, but maybe good the tube got more what it looked liked dirty grey green used tube and makes the front more interesting which I had a s the center of interest.
As it is now the leftside edge is more defined -

I have decided to rework/revise the absolute last time - I was not sure if the smokey tone was nice after all, so as I was in the mood for it, I had some scales going on on the palette and I sort of just adjusted this smokey tone on the ferrule lifted up the highlight and well think it is a keeper, here it is above

One thing I have learned is to be careful with say finally when doing a rework.

18 aug Looks like the rework/study is going to take some more time I have no idea one day two weeks - I can just say the painting is fine, but I decided to not posting the photo before I am as sure as I can be.

In the streets fruit fall down on the pavement from the gardens and I have picked up a good deal just in case. This little one got the case - think it works ok - the photo is not so good as the painting, where the haze is more visible and also a bit more gray-bluish.

The subject for this was study was the valuestructure, I wanted to paint the wall darker and see if It would work. Of course I painted it lighter and the ground plane darker, this happens so easy see image below. I got lost in the picture and forgot what it was about.

So I decided to sacrifice some of the fun brushwork on the ground plane and lower the value of the wall with a bluish grey to represent the light in order to get the valuestructure I want. Here the diagonal is not so strong which make it speak more quiet and less I dont know chaotic maybe, but still has a dark feeling to it. The upper left should have a bit darker value, however think the painting now has a better balance.

I did an exercise/study last time. The vase was standing not right (too much to explain)I painted it anyway, somehow it did not work well. On purpose I left a little space between the vase and knife and concnetrated on the knife first. So it was easy to remove the rest, which I decided to do. It was a very valuable lesson for me, so here it is. I prefered the photo by my working light which is daylight temperature, however I can not avoid some reflections.

One more landscape from near Hellerup harbour (and the little mermaid)a small blind road to the water. It is very often a beautiful light here and just here. It was those rainy augustdays in the afternoon when the sun came through and flashed up the green sea bottom. I exaggerated the saturation of the green to show this and on the photo it is stronger than painting - could not make it better.
